Fafo's Forum on EU enlargement seminar 10 November

Fafo image/bildePalestinian Refugees in Syria

This Fafo-report, edited by Åge A. Tiltnes, provides the first-ever comprehensive picture of the living conditions of the Palestinian refugee community in Syria. Areas of focus are health, education, housing, employment and income. Key demographic features are also presented, and certain aspects of the refugees' social networks are described. The report builds on data extracted from interviews with almost 5,000 families at 65 different locations, including 13 refugee camps. Fafo image/bilde Download the report from here

The lack of apprenticeship places available in local government is a problem -- both for the students, who don't fulfill their education, and for the local governments, which don't receive the necessary competence. At a breakfast seminar today Fafo presented a new living conditions survey from Western China. The Survey was done in cooperation with our Chinese partners, the National Research Center for Science and Technology (NRCSTD), and it is one of the major social studies ever done in China. In 1990 Fafo made an evalution for the newspaper Dagbladet on the 5000 richest people's income, and the development in the eighties. Dagbladet has asked Fafo for an update, to document changes in the richest's conditions, and changes in the total income division in Norway. This gives an interesting opportunity to get a picture of wealth and income differences in a country that has become one of the world's richest nations.
