The Price for Isolating Hamas
26.04.2006
In a series of seminars and newspaper articles Fafo's Middle East
experts have analyzed the consequences of the election victory by
Hamas. Since the mid-nineties, support to the Palestinian Authorities
has been the most important form of aid from the international society
to uphold political stability in the West Bank and on the Gaza strip.
The suspension of this aid radically undermines the political and
economical status quo. By pushing the Palestinian Authority to the
verge of financial collapse, the suspension of aid by the EU and
the US removes the basis for economic and political stability
without offering a real alternative. Find

Non-western
job-seekers at the end of the line
06.04.2006
Fafo presents a new report about unemployment among non-western
immigrants and the effects of labour market measures. Almost seven
out of ten unemployed non-western immigrants have education from
Norwegian schools, but higher education from Norway does not increase
job chances for Africans, Asians and Eastern Europeans. Fafo researchers
Torunn Kvinge and Anne Britt Djuve conclude that labour market measures
improve the possibilities of these groups getting work. Read more (in Norwegian) |

measured the pulse in the Gaza Strip after the Israeli pullout,
while the second poll collected Palestinian opinions in both the
West Bank and the Gaza Strip just one month prior to the parliamentary
elections in January 2006. Read more and download the paper
