"Israel and Gaza: an uneasy truce"

Lunch seminar at Fafo Friday 27th February 2009 11.30-12.45, Borggata 2B Oslo

James A. Larocco, the Director General of MFO (Multinational Force and Observers) in the Sinai, will give a presentation where he will discuss how to establish a stable and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza. Which elements are necessary for a successful international monitoring presence in Gaza and for a comprehensive peace settlement?

Questions and comments are welcome after Larocco’s presentation.

The meeting will be hosted by one of Fafo’s Middle East researchers.

James LaroccoAmbassador James A. Larocco was appointed Director General of the MFO by Egypt and Israel and assumed office on 2 July 2004. He is a retired career diplomat of the United States, a career begun in 1973. His last position before this appointment was as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs. Prior to that he served as U.S. Ambassador to Kuwait and Deputy Chief of Mission in Tel Aviv. He served in Cairo in 1978-81, where he worked on the negotiation of the Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty and its subsequent implementation.
