Palestinian Prime Minister Dr Salam Fayyad at Fafo
"Palestinian youth planning their future - what is important to them?"
Seminar Thursday November 24th, at Fafo.
H E Dr Salam Fayyad, Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority,
visited Fafo Thursday 24 November.
On this occasion Fafo and
NOREF,
in cooperation with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
invited to a seminar.
Two major events took place in 2011 which will have an impact on Palestinians:
The Arab Spring and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas'
bid
for Palestinian statehood at the United Nations General Assembly.
Both events raise questions that are of great importance to young
Palestinians' current and future prospects and role in society. Young
people make up nearly 22 % of the population in Palestine and represent
a big political potential, but their attitudes and beliefs are often ignored.
What do young Palestinians think about their future and their own role in Palestinian politics and in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict?
Jacob Høigilt, Fafo Institute for Applied International Studies presented main findings from Fafo/NOREF study on young Palestinians' perceptions of their future and role in politics. H E Prime Minister Dr Salam Fayyad gave remarks on the study and on the general political situation. The seminar was moderated by Mariano Aguirre, director of the Norwegian Peacebuilding Resource Centre (NOREF).
