Round-table discussion with Mary Robinson: CSR – business and human rights

Fafo, February 3rd 2009

Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland and former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights came to Fafo on February 3rd to offer her reflections on the recent developments and future challenges in the field of business and human rights to an audience of business and governmental representatives. Currently leading Realizing rights: the Ethical Globalization Initiative, Mary Robinson has been at the forefront of growing debates on the links between human and corporate social responsibility. Liv Monica Stubholt, deputy minister from the Petroleum and Energy Ministry who has had long experience on these issues, contributed to this enriching discussion by presenting the coming about and objectives of the “White Paper on corporate social responsibility abroad” recently issued by the Norwegian parliament. Mark Taylor deputy manager of Fafo provided a concrete example of the management  of corporate human rights responsibilities and due diligence with the presentation of the results of his work in collaboration with StatoilHydro on Human Rights Assessment with Mitra Forouhar (lead advisor Human Rights at StatoilHydro).
