Improving infant and child nutrition – NIPI/Vurdering av sentrale tema knyttet til barneernæring i en stat i India (Madhya Pradesh)
Child undernutrition continues to represent a major challenge in India, which has one of the highest undernutrition rates in the world. The Norway-India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) was initiated in 2007 to focus on reducing child mortality and improving child health to attain the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 4 by 2015. Child undernutrition has been shown to be responsible for more than 30% of child deaths, thus improving infant feeding and child nutritional status are important strategies for achieving MDG-4. Inclusion of nutrition as a focal area of NIPI is under consideration, and in that context more information on the various actors' role and their influences as well as factors promoting and obstructing adequate nutritional care is pivotal.
