Global Health
Fafo is increasingly engaged in research related to climate and environmental change, including natural hazards.
Fafo’s particular focus is social dimensions of environmental change, e.g. social impacts, vulnerability, coping and adaptation in China and elsewhere. Such research is an important part of integrated natural and social science approaches to vulnerability models and indexes and is increasing in demand from governments and international institutions.
Health and strategic approaches to health issues have reached increased focus globally over the past decade. Health is an integral part of the Millennium goals of the UN and is an increasingly important part of foreign policy. The health situation and health services are critically affected during conflict and disasters. Lack of health services may contribute to instability and vulnerability. Health challenges such as food safety, HIV/AIDS, bird flu and pandemics like H1N1 clearly show that such challenges transcend national borders and therefore demand efforts at a global level.
East Asia and China attracts more and more interest by the Norwegian society and business life, as this region is pointing the highest economic growth rate in the world. China's recent entry in to the World Trade Organization will most probably increase the rapid changes of the Chinese economy and society.
