Fafo Institute for Applied International Studies

Fafo Institute for Applied International Studies (Fafo AIS) is an interdisciplinary research institute specialized in policy relevant and empirically founded research, in areas in conflict, post-conflict and political transition.

Proper knowledge of social and political processes demands being in the field, to see and hear what happens on the ground, and to gain insight in the perspectives of people affected by policies and conflicts.

Therefore Fafo AIS aims to produce “research that matters” as input to policy processes. This demands methodological awareness of quality in data production, as well as clear commitment to disseminate findings in contexts where policy is made.

Our work is organized around two sets of research themes:

Living conditions and adaptation

Conflict and belonging
