The IMIRA sample

IMIRA will collect information from 22,000 households spread all over Iraq. In each governorate 1,100 households will be interviewed except in Baghdad where the sample will count 3,300.

The sample frame is the 1997 census in the 15 Southern governorates. In the north, specially constructed sample frames will be used. Both in the south and the north probability proportionate to size sampling will be used at the first stage, and simple random sampling of households in the second stage. All selected sample clusters will be updated and listed so as to take into account recent population change.

The 2200 survey clusters will be located with GPS (Global Positioning System) in order to facilitate socio-economic maps and analysis based on geographic location.
