Living Conditions in the Hashemite Kingdom of JordanThe Jordan Living Conditions Survey project (JLCS) was implemented jointly by Jordan's Department of Statistics (DOS) and Fafo. The study aimed at mapping living conditions in Jordan through a comprehensive multi-topic household survey, and to produce statistics and analysis of high relevance to Jordan's socio-economic and development policies. UNICEF-Jordan provided advice and support on all mother-and-child related issues. About 6,000 households were interviewed nationwide in 1996. The JLCS results have been published in various forms, and extensively used and cited in Jordan. DOS published a Tabulation report (1997), while Fafo published an analytical report with joint contributions from Jordanian and Norwegian experts (1998). UNICEF used JLCS data for its Country Assessment, and the 2000 Jordan Development Report draw widely on the study findings. The data have also formed the basis of scholarly and policy-oriented papers and lectures at Jordanian, regional and other seminars and conferences. Furthermore, Fafo has published a report on the living conditions of Palestinian refugees in Jordan (1997). Financial support came from Norway and Canada, in addition to Jordan. The study is completed. Researchers
