Coping strategies in Palestinian society

The project “Coping strategies in Palestinian society” is a follow-up of the two first rounds of case studies in the Paying a Price and “Coping with Closure” projects. This third project studies how Palestinian households in the West Bank and Gaza Strip have adapted to long term conflict and the fiscal crisis that erupted during the period of international sanctions imposed on the Hamas regime in 2006. The project depicts the different strategies in use to compensate for reduced income and looks into the effects of the critical year 2006 on the society at large.  Fieldwork was carried out in March 2007, in the same four localities as in the two former studies in 2001 and 2002.

The project was commissioned by the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
