Developing Palestinian Society

The Norwegian Royal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as part of its planning of future aid to the Palestinian Authority and the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, requested in 1998 Fafo to prepare a report on development aid to the Palestinians. The report had three broad aims: To set out the political and socio-economic context in which international assistance has been, provided in the West Bank and Gaza Strip; review the general allocation of donor funds 1994 - 1998 and to suggest to Norwegian policy makers ways in which aid might be targeted in the coming years in light of anticipated socio-economic and political developments.

The report reviewed the political context, the development of the population, economy and the labour market, macro-economic challenges, and donor engagement.
