Syria living conditions

Within the framework of a contract signed between Syria's State Planning Commission and Fafo, this project aimed at enhancing the capacity of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) and her Syrian partner institutions (line ministries and directorates, academia) to collect and in particular analyse comprehensive household survey data. A second main objective was to provide high-quality labour market and living conditions' statistics to serve as input into Syrian decision-making and policy formulation processes.

In 2004, Fafo conducted three training workshops in Damascus and together with the CBS and other partners carried out data analyses and prepared reports on the Syrian labour market.

Outputs in the form of statistics and analytical papers and reports based on data collected in various surveys and the 2004 Population Census were prepared. The surveys used were primarily the 2003 Unemployment survey, the 2003-2004 Expenditure and income survey, and the 2005 Establishment survey.

The Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs funded the project.
