Seminar on women's position in Syrian society

Building on Fafo's co-operation with Damascus University since the mid-1990s, this project aims at taking stock of empirical sociological research in some areas of relevance for the challenges facing contemporary Syria. Unemployment and poverty, women's rights and child labour are topics being discussed in meetings between the Sociology Department at Damascus University and Fafo.

The main component of the project is a seminar on women's position in Syria, where Syrian academicians, human and women's rights advocates and others meet and discuss various aspects of and perspectives on the status of Syrian women. The project is sponsored by the Norwegian Government.
