Labour migration has had both positive and negative consequences for the Norwegian working life. Norwegian enterprises have gained increased access to labour; however, this development has also led to problems concerning low wage competition, social dumping and labour market crime. Since 2004, Fafo has conducted a series of studies related to labour and service mobility, and the development within the common European labor market. Key topics of our research projects are changes and developments with regard to:
• Labour migration streams
• Regulatory regimes and minimum wage setting mechanisms - in Norway, the Nordic countries and the EU
• Employers’ labour and recruitment strategies
• Trade unions’ responses
• Informal and illegal activities• Working and living conditions among labour migrants and posted workers
• Measures against social dumping and labour market crime
• Work environment and health and safety implications
• Labour market and social conditions in the sending countries
