The mastery of life course component in the Introduction Program for Refugees

This research project investigates how the "mastery of life course" for refugees are implemented in Norwegian municipalities and how the course is integrated into the introduction program.

When the Integration Act was enacted on January 1, 2021, the course “mastery of life in a new country” became mandatory for participants in the introduction program.

The ambition behind the course, as outlined in the regulations to the Integration Act, is to “strengthen the participant’s motivation and coping skills in meeting new expectations and a new society. The course shall help the participant identify and utilize their own competencies and resources” (Integration Regulation §3).

It is also stipulated in the regulation that the course must cover the topics of migration, health, diversity, and career competence.

In this project, we will examine how the content of the mastery of life course is integrated into the introduction program, how the course is implemented in municipalities, the competence of those delivering it, as well as how they collaborate with other relevant services and evaluate the course’s relevance and impact on participants.
